Vegeta is the rival of Kakarot (Goku), he's the farther Trunks and Bra, and the husband of Bulma.
Vegeta is a powerful saiyan prince, his ambitions is to defeat another saiyan Goku otherwise known as 'kakarot' or 'kakarotto'. Vegeta becomes a super saiyan once he lets go of the ambition he has. Vegeta was born on a planet called 'Planet Vegeta' (The planet was named after his farther 'Vegeta')
Vegeta is first seen in a saga called 'The Saiyan Saga' exacly one year after Raditz (Goku's brother) with another saiyan Nappa. Vegeta us eto fight against the Z-fighters, but eventually becomes a Z-fighter. At first Vegeta wanted to use the Dragonballs to make himself imortal, but now he just doesn't really care...
